spring equinox

March 20 at 1:48 AM EST (12:48 AM DST) marks the vernal equinox. Translated literally, equinox means "equal night." Because the sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in length all over the world during the equinoxes. As we move into spring our friends south of the border are moving into autumn.

(Daylight savings begins March 9 this year.)

March is a good time to plan your summer garden, start seeds from scratch, consider building your own root celler. Get involved with your local community: join the local CSA like Snell's family farm here in southern Maine.

The Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE) has asked us return and repeat our September 2007 program. I will be joining Norm Shealy, Oly Schalow, Barbara Rasor Deborah King, Dr. Gladys McGarey, and Richard Gordon for what should be four fantastic days in Virginia Beach.
